Aid to identifying ovarian cancer risk

Source : BMA News - Saturday January 21, 2012

A new online calculator could help GPs identify women at most risk of having ovarian cancer at an earlier stage. Academics from Nottingham University have worked with medical research and software company ClinRisk Ltd to develop the QCancer algorithm. This assesses a combination of patients' symptoms and risk factors to identify those most likely to have ovarian cancer and enable them to be referred for further investigation or treatment. The study uses data from the QResearch database, which anonymises and uploads clinical data from 600 GP practices to a central database. Find out more at www.qcancer.org/ovary.
